Long Time No Speak
by Jorn van Dijk
First of all I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates on the Sofa Blog. It's been way too long (small understatement), but hopefully we'll find time to make this place a lot more interesting in the coming weeks.
First of all I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates on the Sofa Blog. It's been way too long (small understatement), but hopefully we'll find time to make this place a lot more interesting in the coming weeks. Today I'd like to talk about a couple of exciting developments.
Introducing
Our small company isn't so small anymore. We hired a bunch of super talented programmers and a fresh designer that I'd like to introduce to you. On the programming side we've got Cathy Shive (currently contracting), Jonathan Dann (starts about a week from now) and Klaas Pieter Annema. And Joy-Vincent Niemantsverdriet is our new kid on the design block. Proper introductions will follow in the next weeks. For now, we are very happy to work with these talented people. Welcome all!
280 North
We have been quite busy working with the fine folks over at 280 North. If you don't know them, make sure to check out their excellent web app 280 Slides. It's a presentation tool with a user interface so slick, it makes you forget your desktop. 280 Slides runs on a new framework called Cappuccino and Sofa was asked to design its application icon. After that we worked together on building Atlas. Atlas is to Cappuccino what Interface Builder is to Cocoa. A tool that makes creating interfaces a lot easier. We worked closely on the interface and (again) an application icon. It's been great working with Francisco, Ross and Tom. They have a real knack for web development. Judge our efforts on getcappuccino.org and 280atlas.com.
WWDC
The whole team is attending WWDC this year! We are looking forward to meet up with our allies on the west coast of America. And maybe, just maybe, we are as lucky as last year when Checkout won an Apple Design Award in the category Best User Experience. Either way, it'll be good fun. Would you like to get in touch and talk design? Please, feel free to drop me a line on jorn@madebysofa.com and maybe we can meet up in sunny San Francisco and drink a cup of coffee.
Sofa Design
As of last month Sofa has a Design branch under Hugo's and my devoted leadership. In the last year we were contacted by a big amount of companies and we feel it's time to make clear that we are ready to take on the job. A fresh take on the Sofa site is coming soon and it will communicate our services a lot better. On another note, we are still looking for fresh design talent. Think you are up for it? Consider yourself an icon and user interface master? Please, do send a portfolio url to jorn@madebysofa.com.
Last week I finally joined Twitter and persuaded a bunch of people in the office do the same. Start following us if you are interested in what we do. Here are the URL's:
Let the tweeting begin!
